1978 Pontiac Trans Am Gold Special Edition

Description

2 Owner - Gold Special Edition
Upgraded 400ci - 3 Speed Auto

STK 3885 1978 Pontiac Trans Am Y-88 Gold Special Edition

This 1978 Trans Am is a 2-owner Pontiac that has been carefully restored and slightly modified with performance upgrades. The current owner (over 40 years) has provided a copy of the factory build sheet with the car that shows it to be an original limited-production Y88 Gold Special Edition. The Trans AM was refinished (1985) in 'old school' lacquer Solar Gold with custom black/brown accent panels and orange pin-striping. Air-brushing was also used for the hood's unique 'Raging Eagle' design. Enkei92 Classic Gold mesh alloy wheels mount 15” Hercules radials. The interior is fitted with Arizen Racing bucket seats upholstered in custom gold/black cloth w/Trans Am embossing. All elements of the interior are in outstanding condition – upholstery, console, door panels, dash w/gold turned insert, custom 3-spoke leather wheel and carpeting. Convenience features include smoked glass T-tops, tinted power windows, power locks, tilt wheel and refreshed factory gauge package w/white facing (fuel gauge inop). The sound system has also been upgraded with a Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette stereo system w/JVC speakers. (Note: The heater is inop and the original A/C components are no longer on the car, but are included in the sale.)

The owner states that the entire drive train of the Trans Am is matching numbers. The L-78 code 400ci was built in 1999. Some of the engine upgrades include:
• .030 overbore,
• TRW forged pistons/Total Seal rings
• Tri-metal bearings
• Balanced rotating assembly
• Original 6X heads, milled .060”, ported and polished
• CompCam hydraulic cam (.497”/.507”), lifters and dual springs
• 1.52:1 Rockers, Cloyes double roller chain
• Edelbrock Torker II intake w/reworked 750cfm Holley
• Performance Distributors HEI distributor
• Melling oil pump, custom chambered pan
• Shaker Pro-Touring rear-opening hood scoop
• Hooker headers w/cutouts, Flowmaster chambered mufflers
• Chrome dress-up package
Torque is delivered through a 3200rpm stall convertor to a built TH350 automatic w/extra clutch pack and HD sprag. A Hurst V-Matic console shifter manages a manual valve body and the factory Auburn 10-bolt positraction differential is rebuilt with Moser axles and 3.70:1 gears. The chassis is equipped with power steering and power disc/drum brakes w/new master cylinder. Suspension upgrades include Rancho HD springs/shocks, Adams VSE sway bars, poly bushings and Comp Engineering traction bars. This Y88 Trans AM Gold Special Edition has been carefully modified to be a stout performer.
